The mission of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Division of Loan Repayment (DLR) is to enhance the quality and diversity of the scientific community through incentives for biomedical and behavioral researchers and trainees. This is accomplished through the development and management of the congressionally mandated Loan Repayment Programs and the NRSA Payback Service Center.

The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) awards scholarships and loan repayment to primary care providers in eligible disciplines.

Strengthening and growing our primary care workforce—through the National Health Service Corps (NHSC)—began in 1972.  In total, 11.4 million people receive care from the NHSC network of clinicians serving at NHSC sites (PDF - 399 KB) in communities in urban, rural and frontier areas. Since the NHSC began, more than 50,000 primary care medical, dental, and mental and behavioral health professionals have served.

Federal Student Aid Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer.
